Bechdel Test Fest – April 26

FRIDAY, APRIL 26

Tickets on sale at the TCA Box Office, tempecenterforthearts.com, (480) 350-2822

6:30 – Panel discussion:  Bechdel and Beyond

FREE

Moderator: Chandra Crudup (ASU & Black Theatre Troupe)
Panel: Larissa Brewington (Grey Matters Productions), Micha Espinosa (ASU),
Louis Farber (Stray Cat Theatre), Elaine “E.E.” Moe (Megaw Theatre & Actors Studio),
Laurelann Porter (The Bridge Initiative & Benedictine University)

We will discuss why The Bridge Initiative chose the Bechdel Test to evaluate work, and how we have found it both useful and limiting. Looking to the future and moving beyond this gauge, the panel will discuss why representation, diversity, and inclusion are imperative on our stages and screens, and what questions, beyond the Bechdel Test, should be asked. There will also be the opportunity for audience Q&A.

The Tragic Ecstasy of Girlhood by Kira Rockwell
(National Full-Length Play Contest Winner)

DIRECTOR: Ashley Hare
PSM: Marissa Beckett
CAST: Alyssa Arns, Valerie German, Esmeralda Lechuga, Chelsea McCasland, A.P. Nuri

After the sudden death of a housemate, four teenage girls living in state care try to combat their grief. A new poetic drama that explores the chrysalis of female adolescence and centers itself on the resilient youth of America who are left to raise themselves in the shadows of the system.

NOTE: We are hosting playwright Kira Rockwell in Arizona for a full week to work with our creative team on her play. It has enjoyed presentations in L.A. and New England, but this will be the first chance she has to step back and work on the script and we’re looking forward to giving her that opportunity! Our reading on Friday will be the world premiere of the resulting new text.
